Stratford Community School 2026 Course Descriptions

Stratford Community School will start Wednesday, September 16th at Stratford Elementary School. Registration will begin at 5:00pm (No preregistration) with classes starting at 6:30. Please note if you are registering for someone else registration is limited to 2 registrations per person. Community School will run every Wednesday night from 6:30 to 8:30. The final night is December 2nd. There are no classes on September 30th (National Day of Truth and Reconciliation) and November 11th (Remembrance Day). Cost is $30.00 per person per course. Cash or cheque only. Note some classes may have additional costs to cover materials or cost could be less if courses are not the full 10 weeks.

REFUNDS – There are no refunds after the second week.

Crochet/knitting – This is a great class to get the crochet hook out and create something.  Must provide your own crochet hook and yarn.  This class is for anyone that has done some crocheting but want to advance your skills.  Knit one, wool over and knit together, if you are wondering what this means, then this class is for you. Come and learn the basics of knitting.

Cross Stitch - Come and learn the basic of cross stitching, you will create your own piece.

Beginner, Intermediate and Jam Guitar – If you have never played or have some experience there is something for you.

Line Dancing – Little bit country and a little bit rock n roll. Music and low impact line dance steps. Stress less exercise and fun for all!

Pickle Ball - Are you looking for a fun fitness activity that isn't boring? Do you want a cardiovascular workout that won't jolt your joints? If so, then pickleball may be for you. Pickleball is a low-impact sport that is played on a badminton court with a paddle and whiffle ball, it is a mix of tennis, badminton, and ping pong.  It's a great social activity that's suitable for all ages and mobility levels and will get you out and moving! ($5.00 Additional cost)

Ukulele – The ukulele course is designed for the beginner player. All participants should bring their own ukulele and an electronic tuner. A concert size or tenor size ukulele is recommended. The course will consists of the fundamental music theory and we will be doing lots of practice strumming and playing one, two, and three cord songs.

Creative Writing – This class will be more like a workshop. Students will be asked to come prepared with some sort of creative writing to share before each class and will receive feedback on it through class discussion from both the instructor and their peers. Students will be encouraged to submit work to the instructor in advance so that he can share it with the class before class reconvenes. The first class will involve introductions and some sort of in-person writing exercise that will be done in class in order to familiarize students with sharing their work aloud before they dive into this more fully in subsequent weeks

Sewing - Learn the basics of sewing. Bring your own sewing machine and provide your own materials for your project.

TENTATIVE - Awakening to the Best Future Version of Yourself - This course is designed to help you on your journey in life no matter where you are at this time. This course is facilitated by Denise E. Arsenault owner/operator of Health within Holistic centre. It includes:

♡Techniques to help manage stress and lifestyle such as:

breathing
yoga sets (can be done from floor or chair)
meditations
nutritional information
good night sleep tips
tools for more energy
and much more

♡ Also included a mini muscle testing course that will:

help you get in touch with your intuition
help you to know which supplements/foods/drinks/etc are in your best and highest good.
learn a technique that can help control allergic reactions.
and more

♡  Please bring to each class:

■ yoga mat and any props you will need to make you comfortable

■ please wear comfortable clothes.

■ water bottle or hot drink thermos

■ feel free to bring a notebook and pen.

Sign Language -ASL Class- Learn to see the world through Deaf eyes and join us for a unique

experience. ASL is the third most commonly used language in the United States and Canada.

Learning to sign is a gift to our community as Deaf people are all around us.

Beyond learning another language, signing helps to enhance visual memory.

Portrait Drawing - Try your hand at realistic portrait drawing with lots of guidance and tips from someone who’s worked on the streets in Paris for a number of years! Everyone and every level welcome! You can use charcoal or dry pastels on Canson paper or just a pencil and paper if you like. Bring a photo of a portrait you would like to draw or enjoy doing a follow-along lesson of the same portrait if you wish.

Cultural Diversity of PEI – This course will look at a series of cultural presentations by various presenters who immigrated to PEI from different countries. They will showcase their culture and share their experiences of settling on PEI. The presentations are in a format of a PowerPoint Presentation combined with pictures, videos, etc. The content focuses on the beauty of cultures, celebrations, geography, climate, history, language, holidays, etc.as well as how cultural diversity enriches Prince Edward Island.
