New Coordinator

The PEI Association of Community Schools has recently named June Ellis as their new Provincial Coordinator.  Ms. Ellis of East Bideford, Prince County, replaces Shelley Montreuil of County Line Road, Kensington.  Ms. Montreuil has done a great job over the last two years to reorganize the coordinator position.  The Board thanks Ms. Montreuil for all of her hard work.

Ms. Ellis brings with her over 20 years of experience with Community School either as a participant in classes, member of her Tyne Valley/Ellerslie board, or as an instructor.  She knows the value of continually learning new skills and sincerely recommends Community Schools as not only a way of making the winters go by quicker while learning a new skill, but also as a social event to meet your neighbors and make new friends.

Community School is a wonderful opportunity for people to come together to learn new skills and have fun doing it.  This year there are 26 Community Schools on PEI offering over 100 different courses, which gives people a good choice of subjects to choose from.  While some schools start in September, other schools offered start in January and all run for ten weeks. An important aspect of Community School is bringing together people from all age groups to work, share and learn together while having fun.

The key to the success of Community School on PEI is the volunteers.  Chairpersons, committee workers and instructors all give of their time free of charge and because of these dedicated individuals quality courses can be offered to Islanders for very minimal registration fees.  A lot of planning goes in to organizing a Community School and whether these volunteers instruct a course, work on or chair the planning committee, they continue to be Community Schools’ most valuable resource.

Planning is now underway for the fall classes and right around the corner will be the winter classes.  Another news release will be going out in September for the fall classes, then later in December for the winter classes.  To find out more, go to www.peicommunityschools.com
